Ecosomatic Reciprocity: Healing the Human–Nature Relationship Through Dance

PhD Project 2023-2026

Aims

Establish an ethnography of eco-somatics in Britain, and an evidence base for eco-somatic dance practice for increasing connectedness and reciprocity amongst human and more-than-human life, with respect to psycho-political and ecological impact, and to bring this to new audiences, including educational decisionmakers and young people.

Objectives
1. Critically analyse and map developments of the ideologies, practices, methods and traditions informing the development of eco-somatic dance in Britain.

2. Create a contextual analysis of the relationship between eco-somatic dance, nature connection and pro-conservation behaviours that are grounded within a specific place and community.

3. Produce a creative-critical response that communicates the value of eco-somatic dance to reciprocal healing of humans and more-than-human others to new audiences.
